Wisecracking hacker Ralph Crocker finds himself in the middle of a bloody turf war between a cyborg named Death, organ-stealing street monstrosities, and genetically modified government agents. To survive, he must brave dangerous shadow worlds and trust “Alice” (who may be virtual), joining forces with her to confront the godlike man pulling strings behind the scenes to alter perceptions and perhaps even reality. The battle’s outcome will change the future in ways impossible to imagine – and may prove fatal to both Alice and Ralph.
With a witty narrative and skillful plotting, this story travels around the planet and beyond, from streets worked by automated prostitutes, to deadly tourist traps, to virtual worlds where anything can happen with fatal results. You’ll find it’s hard to put this novel down as the action unfolds, providing a sometimes-troubling view of the future.

CELEBRATING GIFTS OF THE HEART
Seventeen days until Margot's seventh birthday-and then it will be Bailey's birthday, too. It's the Great Birthday Month!
And birthdays mean presents-or so Bailey has heard.
"I'm sure you"ll get lots," says Claudia. Her owner Nicki always gets FABULOUS gifts.
"We just have to be good..." says Margot, "before we get all our presents, too."
And Bailey is good. He doesn't bark. He doesn't jump on Aunt Syl. He doesn't sleep on the sofa. Bailey is actually CALM! "Here come the presents," thinks the hopeful Dalmatian.
Bailey will soon discover that the best presents are not gift-wrapped
Set in New York City, author Elizabeth Happy's story of great expectations presents a dog's eye view of big city life-from comfortable brownstones to soaring skyscrapers, from the din of early-morning garbage collectors to the clamor of evening rush hour, from Central Park to the Staten Island Ferry.
Illustrator Andra Chase has captured the whole scene in vivid watercolors. And her depictions of the eager-to-please Bailey and his muddled sidekick Claudia are heart stealing.
First published in 1994, this timeless story includes the Twin Towers as an important part of this New York City landscape.

GOLD MOUNTAIN tells the story, within the framework of a
novel, of San Francisco's Chinatown immediately before, during and after the
Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906. Against the background of the Chinese
Exclusion Act and miscegenation laws comes a tale of love and loss. Ruth Greer,
wealthy daughter of a shipping magnate, finds a young boy who has run away from
his home in Chinatown--an area of gambling parlors, opium dens, sing-song girls,
as well as families trying to eke out a living. It is also home to a number of
highbinder tongs, the infamous "hatchet men" of Chinese lore.
There, Ruth meets the boy's father, Li Han-lin, the
handsome, enigmatic leader of one such tong, and discovers he is neither as
frightening, cruel, or wanton as reputation would have her believe. As Ruth's
fascination with the area grows, she finds herself pulled deeper into the
intrigue of the lawless area, and Han-lin's life. But the two are from
completely different worlds, and when both worlds are shattered by the
earthquake and fire that destroys San Francisco, they face their ultimate test.

2006 is one of those exciting even number years.
And that’s not just for people who have a phobia of odd numbers. (Oh yes, there are people out there who are scared of odd numbers! And probably more than you think.
Certainly more than those who are scared of being tickled to death by feathers, but not as many as those who are scared of Velcro! Which is probably a fairly large percentage of those people who seem to, forever, live in fleece tops!)
But no, an even number year means a major Summer International football tournament. What better way to enjoy the break from football – than to have more football! Another chance for England to win a major trophy, and to stop that old, black and white “they think it’s all over!” clip being shown over and over again!
But, for Paul Day, would the distraction of tournament football be enough to give him a break from the, seemingly, never ending disasters that follow him around?
Taken from the comedy epic that is Paul Day Chronicles – Happily After Ever, this short story focuses on what happens when all you want to do is watch a couple of football matches.
Embarrassingly cringy, quirky, and, more than anything, damn funny, read along as Paul Day brings his own brand of life chaos to every situation he finds himself in.
